Overview

Cranes for Derby and the county

We supply cranes with operators and carry out contract lifts across Derby and Derbyshire, for loads from 20kg up to 1,000 tonnes.

Much of the lifting in Derby happens inside working engineering plants, where the placing tolerance counts for more than the weight. Tell us what the job needs and we will plan the crane and the method together.

Which areas do we cover?

Every DE postcode, the rest of Derbyshire, and the rest of the UK when the job calls for it.

Which cranes do we supply?

All-terrain mobile cranes, city cranes, light truck cranes and our electric pick and carry cranes, chosen for the load and the space.

No lift planner on site?

Then it is a contract lift. We survey, plan and run it, fully insured.

Need a figure first?

Send the details and photos. We can usually quote from a desktop survey the same day.

    How it works

    Booking a crane in Derby

    01

    Send us the job

Weight and size of the load, the address, where it goes and photos of the route in. A drawing helps on precision work.

    02

    We quote

We price from what you send, and visit first where the access, the floor or the tolerance needs a look.

    03

    We plan

Our appointed person writes the lift plan and RAMS for a contract lift, including any tolerance or vibration limits, and sends them before the day.

    04

    We lift

The crane sets up as planned at the agreed time and the lift runs to BS 7121, with equipment examined under LOLER.

    Derby

    Where we lift around Derby

We cover the city, Pride Park and the estates round it, the towns up the Derwent valley and south to Swadlincote and Burton.

    Where we lift

    The city

The centre and the Cathedral Quarter, Darley Abbey, Allestree, Mickleover and Littleover

    East and south

Pride Park, Spondon, Chaddesden, Alvaston and Sinfin

    North up the Derwent

    Belper, Ripley, Heanor and Wirksworth

    South and beyond

Swadlincote and Burton-on-Trent, and across to Ilkeston and Nottingham

    What we plan for

    The way in

Junctions 24 and 25 of the M1 sit east of the city, with the A38, A50 and A52 spreading out from it. Large cranes are routed round low bridges and weight limits.

    Inside working plants

On live manufacturing sites the lift fits the shutdown window, with inductions, permits and exclusion zones agreed first.

    Tolerance and vibration

On aerospace and rail work the placing tolerance and the vibration limits shape the method as much as the lift.

    Low ground by the Derwent

The land along the river is low-lying, and many sites pair good roads with rough ground at the work face. The bearing is checked and mats go down to suit.

    Questions

    Common questions

Yes. Inside the building it goes on skates or jacking, with the crane handling the way in and out. Floor loading and the route between columns get checked first.

Yes. Tell us the tolerance and whether vibration matters, and we write the method to suit.

Yes. Give us the times and the lift details and we plan the crane, the route and the set-up to fit, out of hours where the site needs it.

That depends on the weight at radius, the distance from the crane’s centre to the landing point, plus the hook block and slings.

    Why book with us

What comes with a Derby booking

Plans from our own appointed persons

Each contract lift plan is written in house, with a site visit when the lift needs one.

    Same-day quotes

Send the weight, the reach and photos, and a desktop quote normally follows the same day.

    Engineering work

Machine tool moves, test equipment installs and plant changes inside working factories are a large part of what we lift here.

    Road closures

When the crane needs part of the road or pavement, we apply to Derby City Council and provide the traffic management.

    Accredited

Certified to ISO 9001 and ISO 14001, SSIP approved, a Constructionline Gold Member and a CPA member. Operators hold CPCS or NPORS cards.

    More than a crane

Transport, riggers, labour and machine movers can be booked on the crane order.
